We had such a fun day yesterday. We first started out the day with the Sun Painter Half Marathon. I really didn't want to run in the rain and was hoping it would stop. When I got up at 7 a.m. It was pouring down rain but luckily a half hour later it stopped. We left the house at 8 a.m. to go pick up Barry and Paul Kreyling. Barry was running the half with us and Paul was doing the 5k. It was a little cold and very cloudy but no wind or rain.
There were a lot of runners! I remember the first year we did the Sun Painter 1/2 there were only probably about 2oo runners. Yesterday there were about 2200 hundred runners. Jamie, Barry and I started really close to the front so we could get a fast start and not get bogged down with slower runners. I love the Sun Painter. It is nice to get there and not have to be bused anywhere. I sure appreciate all the volunteers that help with the water stops and the police officers that stop traffic for us. It was also nice to run some place different. Although I may go over to Bloomington and do one of my long marathon training runs there. The trails are great.
I am very grateful that Jamie comes back the last 1/2 mile of the race and pushes me to give it everything I've got for a strong finish. I was happy with my time of 1:39 although I think I could have run a minute faster. Jamie and Barry did great! Paul did awesome too!! It is fun to sharing running experiences with family. I hope they do the Spectrum 10k with us.
After the marathon we showered and ate lunch. Then packed up some snacks and our winter clothes and headed for Pine Mountain. I love the fact that we can drive 30 minutes and be in the snow.
I couldn't believe how much snow was up there. We had never been there when there had been that much snow. It was so hard walking through it. I luckily had some really tall rubber boots and waterproof pants. The snow still came up past my knee. The sun was shining and it wasn't really that cold. We trudged over to spot where we usually slide down and proceeded to make a trail. I think the first hour we just spent making a path down the hill so there weren't too many bumps. Then packing down snow to get up to the top of the path. The second hour we spent tubing then walking back up the hill then sliding down again. It was a lot of fun. Two and a half hours later we were cold and wet so we hoped back in the truck and headed home.
We ended the evening going to Golden Corral for dinner. After playing in the snow all afternoon it tasted so good. It was a fun day. I posted more pictures and video on my facebook account.
